Subject:
I suppose you needed to be there
Listening to the broadcasts, thay can seem extreme , however you have to place them in the context of the local and international situation at that time, plus the lack of information that individuals had, and how it was controlled by press barons...I can see that in 50 + years society will judge us nieve even with our internet access...when the real truth is revealed

Mcarthyism
Joseph McCarthy was a power hungry alcoholic who was not above ruining someone's life through unbacked accusations and innuendo. Since nobody has commented on my statement that Father Coughln was anti-semitic, the decision on the field is confirmed. I wonder if he ever realized that Jesus was a Jew. Anyway, “The problem in defense is how far you can go without destroying from within what you are trying to defend from without.” General/President Dwight D. Eisenhower

Joseph McCarthy? I wish there are few Joseph McCarthys running around the senate right now. That was a rather nonsensical comparison to the subject, though, but whatever. Why not add the Great Gatsby and Bill Cosby just for kicks.
These recordings are of historical significance and the sound quality is good.

Wha????
What are you talking about? McCarthy warned us about the Communist threat and he was right. In fact it was discover after the fact that the Communist threat was much larger than even he realized.
If America had listened to him we wouldn't be where we are today.

Subject:
Timeless and Truthful
Father Coughlin gave warning to beware of Marxism, liberal/progressive agendas that we ignored and now pay for. The bullying cry of "intolerance" and "hate"were tossed around to discredit him in order to lure unsuspecting citizens away from communism's dangerous goals. Communism never died, it gained strength while we were sleeping. Moral, physical, and economic slavery is what we have won in silencing him.
Excellent recording, audio very good.

Evil Bigot
. . . man, this guy was a real piece of work. My Dad and I were thrilled when this hypocritical racist and evil blowhard was finally and forever barred from radio. Not everything from our good old days was "good".

Date of Start of Little Flower
Listening to this show Coughlin mentions he was 82 years old so I tentatively date it to 1973. Thanks for posting these important historical artifacts.

Subject:
an invaluable historical resource
hearing his voice helps to understand the power he exercised: the 2d broadcast must be dated post july 23, 1939 as he cites a Daily Worker editorial of that date right at the top
